आर्कटिक प्रदेश– आर्कटिक महासागर पृथ्वी की उत्तरी सीमा पर स्थित होते हैं।इसके मध्य भाग में उत्तरी ध्रुव स्थित है। यह सागर बर्फ से ढका है एवं लगभग चारों ओर से जमीन से घिरा हुआ है। एशिया, यूरोप और उत्तरी अमेरिका के उत्तरी किनारों ने इसे तीनो तरफ से घेर रखा है।चौथी ओर ग्रीनलैंड का विशाल द्वीप दूसरे छोटे-छोटे द्वीप समूह हैं।यह समस्त क्षेत्र प्रत्येक समय बर्फ से ढका रहता है एवं किनारों पर खुले समुद्र में हिमखंड तैरते रहते हैं।

यहांँ चारों ओर बर्फ होने के कारण पेड़-पौधे नहीं उग पाते हैं, इसलिए यहांँ बहुत कम लोग ही निवास करते हैं।उत्तरी अमेरिका और ग्रीनलैंड में एस्कीमो लोग और यूरोप में लैप लोग निवास करते हैं।इन लोगों ने इस क्षेत्र में जीवित रहने का तरीका सीख लिया है।ये लोग बर्फ के ऊपर सख्त बर्फ की मोटी सिल्लियों से अपने घरों का निर्माण करते हैं।इनकी शक्ल भी गुंबद के आकार की होती है। इन्हें इग्लू कहा जाता है।यहांँ के निवासी अपना जीवन-यापन शिकार तथा मछली पकड़ कर किया करते हैं।रेनडियर, सील, वालरस और ध्रुवीय भालू भी यहांँ पर कुछेक मात्रा में पाए जाते हैं।
